Polish Dance Platform 2010Dear All, The upcoming edition of Polish Dance Platform was born out of the need to present the achievements of the Polish dance community in Poland and abroad. During the project's last edition, which took place in Poznan in October 2008, we presented a program of fourteen shows selected in a vote by the festival's Jury. The works presented stirred interest among international curators and for the local dance community the whole event turned out a perfect occasion to meet and exchange artistic experiences. Richer in experience after the last edition of Polish Dance Platform and encouraged by its warm reception, we are happy to inform you that the preparations for another edition of the festival, planned to take place in Poznan between 7th - 10th October 2009, have just begun. As last time, the organizers are ZAMEK Culture Center and Art Stations Foundation (residing in Old Brewery). Our wish is to create in Poznan a space for the presentation of the best dance performances produced in Poland within the last two years. But let us remember that Polish Dance Platform is not only a presentation of dance productions – it is also a place for exchanging information and ideas about dance, its present state and its future direction. As Organizers, we would like it to serve as a platform for the meeting of various circles of the Polish dance community - not only artists themselves, but also critics, managers, and the audience. Thus, next to the performances program we will propose a series of structured meetings devoted to the condition of contemporary dance – discussion panels, workshops and meetings with international guests. Following the suggestions reaching us from the dance community after the Platform's last edition, we have decided to change the selection procedure. This time the qualification process will be divided into two stages – first a pre-selection of the received materials and then a preview of the chosen performances by the members of our expert Jury: Jadwiga Majewska (independent dance critic), Tadeusz Kornaś (“Didaskalia”), Janusz Marek (Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle). In order to take part in Polish Dance Platform 2010 a candidate needs to get familiar with the new regulations, fill in a registration form (search in the bookmark “Registration”) and send it attached to the materials which will present his or her performance to us by 31th March 2010. All the year our experts will be traveling through the country and watching selected performances live. The Jury of Polish Dance Platform will present its verdict on 15th July 2010. Starting from now, we are waiting for your applications. We would also like to encourage you to add information about new dance events, premieres and festivals to the calendar of events at the Polish Dance Platform website. We are looking forward to your applications and to meeting you in Poznań! "Zamek" Culture Centre"Zamek" Culture Centre in Poznań is one of the largest and most dynamic institutions of its kind in Poland. Its program offer encompasses all artistic disciplines: visual arts, music, film, literature, theatre, dance and artistic education. In the unique spaces of the Castle we organize meetings, exhibitions, concerts, film retrospectives, theatre performances, workshops; we also prove ourselves as producers of major open-air events. An area that gains more and more prominence on our program is the contemporary dance theatre, which enjoys immense popularity throughout Europe. Between 2003 and 2006, CK "Zamek" was the Polish partner to the Trans Danse Europe project, which consisted in exchange of dance theatre companies and choreographers between nine dance festivals and cultural centres from France, Belgium, Island, Slovenia, Denmark, Finland, the Czech Republic and Poland. Artists held artistic residence at different centres, where they prepared pieces later presented in all partner towns. In 2003, the French company Rialto Fabrik Nomade resided at the "Zamek" (and showed their performance a year later). Within the TDE, the "Zamek" also presented a piece prepared by the illustrious Belgian choreographer Karine Pontier, and performed by Czech artists /2004/, "Kilka błyskotliwych spostrzeżeń" [Several Witty Observations] by Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre; "We are all Marlene Dietrich FOR" by Iceland Dance Company, "Helium" by the Belgian Compagnie Mossoux-Bonte (phot.), "Moment'' by Magdalena Reiter /all in 2005 /; "Flow" and "Lucid Dreaming" by the Finnish Nomadi Productions, as well as "AlineAlone" by Granhoj Dans from Denmark /2006. Since 2006, we have been co-organizer (with Nuova Foundation) of "The Spring Festival", whose idea is to present the most interesting adaptations of "The Rite of Spring" by Igor Stravinsky. So far, we have seen "Sacre du Printemps" by Compagnie Heddy Maalem /2006/; "Haru No Saiten. Un Sacre du Printemps" choreographed by Carlotta Ikeda and Ko Murobushi and performed by Compagnie Ariadone of Bordeaux /2007/ (photos), as well as "Sacre", Stravinsky's multimedia interpretation by Klaus Obermaier and Ars Electronica Futerlab /2008/. In 2007, we started a new series "Mistrzowie choreografii XXI wieku" [Masters of 21st Century Choreography]. Within its programme one of the most outstanding contemporary choreographers, the Flemish artist Peeping Tom, was presented at the "Zamek" Culture Centre three theatrical-dance pieces which form a singular "Trilogy" /"Le Jardin", "Le Salon", "Le Sous Sol"/ (photos). It was the first and only appearance of his ensemble in Poland. Art Stations Foundation / Old Brewery New DanceOld Brewery New Dance project, a multi-layer program of contemporary dance that has been realized since October 2004, is one of its kind on the Polish scene. The program's primary objective is to popularize the art of dance and to support professional development of young Polish choreographers and dancers, making Poznań the first place in Poland to create and present contemporary dance performances on regular basis all year round. It is our intention to present the achievements and popularize the knowledge of contemporary avant-garde trends in the art of dance, thus inspiring the local dance community to radical experiments and inviting them to formal search for new movement possibilities (and possibly more). The ambition is to transform the studio at Stary Browar into a contemporary choreography center, offering not only a venue for the presentation of dance shows, but first and foremost "a space for creation" - a meeting place for young Polish and foreign dance artists with established choreographers; a place bustling with life all year round, where artists can rehearse and produce original dance spectacles; a center providing professional conditions for the creation and promotion of the dynamic and exciting art of modern dance. The program has been run for 4 years now - a time in which Studio Słodownia +3 has hosted almost a hundred dance events inviting artists from all over Europe and Poland. The shows take place in monthly cycles and every year they close with a series of presentation under the title of Old Brewery New Dance on MALTA (part of MALTA International Theater Festival). A week's long dance celebration at Stary Browar, the event is a an original form of presenting the outcomes of all year's regular meetings planned on our dance program's agenda, at the same time being a unique (often first-time) occasion to meet the top names of the international dance scene.
